Lance Cpl. Timothy James Poole Jr., 22, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, was a U.S. Marine killed in Helmand province, Afghanistan, on January 24, 2010.

Lance Cpl. Zachary Dylan Smith, 19, of Hornell, New York, served with the 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was killed in Helmand province, Afghanistan, on January 24, 2010.

Lance Corporal Jeremy Mitchell Kane, 22, of Towson, Maryland, was a U.S. Marine killed in Helmand province, Afghanistan, on January 23, 2010.

Petty Officer Second Class Qi Xin, 25, of Cordova, Tennessee, died on January 23, 2010, in Helmand province, Afghanistan, while serving with the U.S. Navy Reserve during Operation Enduring Freedom.

Technical Sergeant Adam Kenneth Ginett, 29, of Knightdale, North Carolina, was a U.S. Air Force explosive ordnance disposal technician. He was killed by hostile action in Kandahar, Afghanistan, on January 19, 2010.

Sergeant First Class Michael Paul David Shannon, 52, of Canadensis, Pennsylvania, was a U.S. Army Reserve soldier who died in Kabul, Afghanistan, on January 17, 2010. He was assigned to the U.S. Army Control Group in Saint Louis, Missouri.
