Airman First Class Corey Charles Owens was a 26-year-old from San Antonio, Texas. He served as a security forces airman with the 47th Security Forces Squadron, based at Laughlin Air Force Base in Texas.

On February 17, 2011, Owens was killed by enemy small-arms fire while on duty at Al Asad Air Base in Iraq's Anbar province. The U.S. Department of Defense confirmed his death was a result of hostile action.

Owens died during Operation New Dawn, the final phase of the U.S. military mission in Iraq that began in September 2010. The operation, which succeeded Operation Iraqi Freedom, formally concluded with the withdrawal of U.S. forces in December 2011.

His death was reported by national news outlets, including the San Antonio Express-News. The Air Force returned his remains to his family in Texas.

Owens is memorialized on the Air Force Security Forces Association's roll of honor. His name is also inscribed on the Laughlin Air Force Base memorial for fallen defenders.
