Stacy Oredia Johnson was a 36-year-old Petty Officer First Class from Rolling Fork, Mississippi. He served in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to Naval Security Force Bahrain, a unit responsible for force protection at naval installations in the region.
Johnson was killed in a shooting incident on July 18, 2011, in Manama, Bahrain. According to U.S. Navy statements, he was shot while off base in the Juffair district, a neighborhood where many U.S. personnel reside. Bahraini authorities reportedly arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting.
His death occurred during Operation New Dawn, the U.S. military's post-combat advise-and-assist mission in Iraq, which ran from September 2010 to December 2011. While the operation was centered in Iraq, U.S. personnel supporting it were stationed throughout the region, including in Bahrain, which served as a key logistics and support hub for the Fifth Fleet.
The Navy confirmed Johnson's death the following day. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart medal. A memorial service was held for him at Naval Support Activity Bahrain.
