Airman First Class Christoffer Paige Johnson, 20, of Clarksville, Tennessee, was a member of the U.S. Air Force's 423rd Security Forces Squadron. He died on February 17, 2011, at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

Their Story

Airman First Class Christoffer Paige Johnson was a 20-year-old security forces airman from Clarksville, Tennessee. He was assigned to the 423rd Security Forces Squadron, based at RAF Alconbury in the United Kingdom, and was deployed in support of Operation New Dawn.

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, Johnson died on February 17, 2011, at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. A subsequent Air Force investigation concluded his death was the result of a non-combat incident involving a privately owned vehicle.

Operation New Dawn was the final phase of the U.S. military mission in Iraq, which began in September 2010. It followed Operation Iraqi Freedom and focused on advising and assisting Iraqi security forces as U.S. combat troops withdrew. The operation formally concluded in December 2011.

The Department of Defense announced Johnson's death in a press release on February 19, 2011. His body was returned to the United States, and he was buried at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.

Johnson was posthumously promoted to the rank of Senior Airman. He is remembered on memorials for fallen security forces personnel and by veterans' organizations in his home state of Tennessee.
