Staff Sgt. Quadi Shareem Hudgins was a 26-year-old soldier from New Orleans, Louisiana. He served with the Maintenance Troop, Regimental Support Squadron, based at Fort Hood, Texas. His unit was deployed to Iraq as part of the U.S. military's ongoing presence following the conclusion of major combat operations.

On April 2, 2011, Hudgins died in Babil province, south of Baghdad. The Department of Defense stated his death was the result of hostile action. According to reports, he was killed by an improvised explosive device while on a convoy mission.

Hudgins died during Operation New Dawn, the U.S. mission in Iraq that began on September 1, 2010. This phase followed Operation Iraqi Freedom and was defined as an advise-and-assist role, with U.S. forces supporting Iraqi security units. The period was marked by continued insurgent attacks against remaining American and Iraqi forces.

The Department of Defense announced Hudgins's death on April 4, 2011. He was posthumously promoted from the rank of sergeant to staff sergeant. His body was returned to the United States for burial.

Staff Sgt. Hudgins is remembered on memorial walls at Fort Hood and by veterans' groups. His name is included on the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America's casualty list for 2011.
