Brandon Scott Hocking was a 24-year-old sergeant from Seattle, Washington. He served in the U.S. Army as part of the 632nd Maintenance Company, 87th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 3rd Sustainment Brigade, based out of Fort Stewart, Georgia.
On March 21, 2011, Sgt. Hocking was killed in As Samawah, a city in southern Iraq's Muthanna province. According to the Department of Defense, his death was the result of a hostile incident. Few specific details of the event were publicly released, but it occurred during the final year of the U.S. military mission in Iraq.
Hocking died during Operation New Dawn, the official name for the U.S. military's role in Iraq from September 2010 to December 2011.
