A Hot Afternoon in Kaduna

It was around two o’clock in the afternoon inside Kaduna city. The weather was extremely hot, and the blazing sun covered the entire city with intense heat.

Some people were busy with their daily businesses while others searched for shaded places to rest.

A young girl walked slowly through the narrow streets of her neighborhood as if she could not even feel the heat of the sun.

She wore her school uniform while heading toward a medium-sized compound located among houses owned by both wealthy families and average citizens.

Immediately she reached the gate and saw a luxurious black car parked outside, a bright smile appeared on her face.

Quickly, she rushed inside the house greeting everyone loudly:

“Welcome back, Uncle! Welcome, Daddy!”

Jalilah Meets Her Uncle

Inside the sitting room sat a respectable elderly man beside a younger woman who strongly resembled the girl.

The girl immediately knelt respectfully to greet the man.

He smiled warmly and asked:

“How is school, my daughter?”

She replied happily:

“Everything is fine, Uncle. We started our holiday today after completing our mock examinations. Soon I’ll be entering Senior Secondary School One.”

The man smiled proudly.

“Masha Allah. My little girl has grown up.”

Then he added:

“Since your holiday has started, it came at the perfect time. I’ll return to Kano with you today so you can spend your vacation there.”

Jalilah became excited immediately while her mother forced a smile despite feeling emotional inside.

Although she hated seeing her daughter far away from her, she could never refuse Alhaji Imam because of the deep love he showed toward Jalilah.

Arrival in Kano

Around five o’clock in the evening, they arrived in Kano city.

The famous NNDC Quarters area looked beautiful and peaceful as they entered the large modern mansion owned by Alhaji Imam.

The children inside the house rushed out happily to welcome their father.

The moment they saw Jalilah, excitement filled the atmosphere.

Nana quickly grabbed her hand shouting joyfully:

“Jalilah! This holiday is going to be amazing!”

Both girls hugged each other warmly before entering the house together.

The lady of the house welcomed her happily:

“Welcome, our special guest.”

Jalilah respectfully greeted her before Nana dragged her toward her room excitedly.

A New Environment

That night, the family gathered together for dinner.

Suddenly, a young man entered the sitting room joking loudly:

“What am I seeing here? Who brought this village girl into our house?”

Everyone burst into laughter instantly.

Jalilah frowned and replied:

“I am not a village girl.”

The young man smiled teasingly and asked:

“So, city girl, when did you arrive?”

Nana quickly answered for her:

“She arrived this evening with Dad.”

The young man nodded approvingly while the family continued laughing and chatting happily together.

The Wild Side of Jalal

Elsewhere inside another luxurious house, Abdul Jalal sat carelessly inside a stylish sitting room smoking heavily while music played softly in the background.

His phone rang repeatedly, but he ignored every call.

Eventually, he glanced at the screen and saw it was his mother calling again.

Annoyed, he answered aggressively:

“What is it, Mum? If I didn’t answer earlier, then you should understand I’m busy.”

His mother pleaded with him to come home immediately because she needed to see him urgently.

But Jalal coldly replied:

“I’m resting right now. Whatever it is can wait until tomorrow.”

Without allowing her to speak further, he switched off the phone and continued smoking.

Jalilah Learns About Jalal

The following morning, Jalilah and Nana spent time together preparing breakfast while chatting happily inside the kitchen.

Later, Nana took Jalilah out to visit her friend Ilham.

On their way, a speeding luxury car rushed past them dangerously, covering the road with dust.

Shocked, Jalilah stared at the car and said:

“That driver must be completely reckless.”

Nana sighed deeply before replying:

“That is Jalal for you.”

She continued:

“No one can control him in this neighborhood. He fears nobody, not even his parents.”

Jalilah became surprised.

“Is that really Yaya Jawwad’s friend? Their characters are completely different.”

Nana smiled sadly.

“Not every friendship depends on similar behavior. Allah simply joined their hearts together.”

Later that day, Jalilah unexpectedly witnessed Jalal arguing disrespectfully with his mother inside their house.

The scene shocked her deeply.

She could not understand how someone could speak so harshly to his own mother.

After returning home, she immediately told Nana:

“That boy seriously lacks manners.”

Nana laughed softly while Jalilah continued complaining:

“I still don’t understand how Yaya Jawwad became friends with someone like him.”

Then she added confidently:

“I swear before I leave Kano, I will separate them. Someone like Jalal should not influence Yaya Jawwad.”

Nana stared at her in shock before bursting into laughter.

Little did Jalilah know that her life was slowly about to become deeply connected with the same Abdul Jalal she already disliked.
