The young man standing beside him had called his name three different times, yet he never turned around or answered.
His full attention remained fixed on the large fish pond located inside their family compound.
He watched the fishes swimming wildly inside the water while shaking his head and body excitedly with loud uncontrolled laughter.
Anyone who looked at him carefully would immediately understand that his mental condition was not completely stable.
Affan and the Fish Pond
The young man beside him gently touched his shoulder before sitting close to him.
He threw fish food into the pond, and instantly the fishes became more active, moving beautifully through the water.
Affan screamed happily while clapping his hands excitedly.
“Yeeehhh! Jabeer, give them more. They’re hungry.”
Jabeer smiled softly while staring at his best friend with deep pity hidden inside his eyes.
“Affan, it’s prayer time. Let’s go and pray first, then we’ll come back and continue feeding them.”
Affan bent his neck stubbornly like a small child and replied:
“No, not now. Mummy said whenever I pray or don’t pray it’s okay because my sins are not recorded.”
Jabeer’s Concern
The expression on Jabeer’s face changed immediately because he was already used to hearing the same statement every single day whenever he mentioned prayer to Affan.
Trying to convince him carefully, Jabeer asked:
“Who told you your sins are not recorded, Affan?”
Then he continued:
“You know the fire used for cooking food at home?”
Affan immediately nodded fearfully.
“Yes, the one used for making my hot Indomie noodles.”
Jabeer nodded slowly.
“Exactly. But Allah’s fire used for people who abandon prayer is far hotter than that.”
Affan suddenly stood up in panic with wide frightened eyes.
“Hotter than the toilet heater water that burns me during bathing?”
Jabeer answered seriously:
“Very much hotter. Compared to Allah’s fire, that hot water feels like cold water.”
The Fear Inside Affan
Fear immediately covered Affan’s face.
He slowly stepped backward and shouted:
“You’re lying! I’m going to ask Mummy.”
The moment Jabeer heard that, he quickly became worried.
He already knew that once Affan asked his mother, she would never encourage him to pray.
Jabeer immediately grabbed Affan’s hand gently and said:
“Affan, would I ever lie to you?”
But Affan pulled his hand away quickly.
“Yes! You’re lying.”
Then he turned and ran into the house at full speed while Jabeer kept calling his name repeatedly behind him.

Jabeer’s Silent Pain
Affan completely ignored him and disappeared inside the house.
Jabeer remained standing there silently for several minutes with visible sadness on his face.
Slowly, he held his head in frustration.
The pain of watching his closest friend living in such condition constantly broke his heart.
After standing there quietly for nearly five minutes, Jabeer finally turned and walked slowly toward the mosque for prayer.
Deep inside his heart, he continued praying silently that one day Allah would heal Affan completely.
