Simone Asia Robinson was a 21-year-old sergeant from Dixmoor, Illinois, a suburb south of Chicago. She was a member of the Illinois Army National Guard, assigned to Company E of the 634th Brigade Support Battalion based in Joliet.
Robinson was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign that began in Afghanistan in October 2001. Her unit's role in the brigade support battalion typically involved critical logistical functions such as supply, maintenance, and transportation.
She died on March 1, 2009. According to the Department of Defense, her death was the result of hostile action. Initial reports indicated she was wounded in Afghanistan and later died at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
