Their Story

David Eugene Hall was a 21-year-old soldier from Uniontown, Kansas. He served as a Specialist (SPC) with the 805th Military Police Company, based in Raleigh, North Carolina, and was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

On February 26, 2004, Hall was killed in Kabul, Afghanistan. According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports, he died from injuries sustained when his military vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED).

Hall's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. The operation's initial phase focused on removing the Taliban government and targeting al-Qaeda, but by 2004, the mission had shifted to include stabilization and counterinsurgency efforts.

Hall's death was reported by the Department of Defense and noted in local Kansas media. He was one of at least 11 U.S. service members killed in Afghanistan in the first two months of 2004, a period of escalating insurgent attacks.

Hall is memorialized on the Afghanistan War Memorial at Fort Benning and is listed among the more than 2,300 American service members who died during Operation Enduring Freedom. His hometown of Uniontown, Kansas, has a population of approximately 300 people.
