Brandon Drew Gordon was a 21-year-old soldier from Naples, Florida. He served as a Specialist with Company B, 2nd Battalion, 160th Aviation Regiment, a helicopter unit based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports, Gordon died on February 18, 2007, in Qalat, Zabul province, Afghanistan. The official release stated he was killed when his unit came under small-arms fire during a dismounted patrol.
Gordon's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. By 2007, the conflict had entered a phase of intensified counterinsurgency operations, particularly in the country's southern and eastern provinces.
His death was reported by several news outlets, including the Naples Daily News, which noted his local ties. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart.
