U.S. Army Sergeant Gregory Duenas Fejeran, 28, of Barrigada, Guam, was killed in action on March 5, 2007, in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia, during Operation Enduring Freedom.
Their Story
Sergeant Gregory Duenas Fejeran was a 28-year-old soldier from Barrigada, Guam. He served with Company C, 1st Battalion, 294th Infantry Regiment, a unit of the Guam Army National Guard.
On March 5, 2007, Fejeran was killed in a vehicle accident in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia. According to U.S. Department of Defense statements, he was part of a security detail for a senior U.S. military officer when the accident occurred. He was the only U.S. service member to die in the incident.
Fejeran's death took place during Operation Enduring Freedom – Horn of Africa, a distinct theater of the broader counterterrorism campaign. The mission, based out of Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti, focused on training allied forces and conducting stability operations across East Africa, including in Ethiopia.
His death was reported by the U.S. military and noted in media coverage from Guam. His remains were returned to the island, where he was memorialized.
Sergeant Fejeran is listed on the Guam Veterans Memorial Wall and is remembered among the fallen from the U.S. territory in the post-9/11 conflicts.
