Master Sergeant Emigdio Efrain Elizarraras was a 37-year-old soldier from Pico Rivera, California. He served with Company B, 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, as part of the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan.
On February 28, 2006, Elizarraras was killed by hostile action in Tarin Kowt, the capital of Afghanistan's Uruzgan province. The Department of Defense provided no further specifics on the incident, but reporting from the time indicates the area was a known insurgent stronghold where U.S. and Afghan forces conducted regular operations.
His death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001 following the September 11 attacks. The mission aimed to dismantle al-Qaeda and remove the Taliban from power.
