Dazachacon, Edwin Herbert
Staff Sergeant Edwin Herbert Dazachacon, 38, of Belleville, Illinois, was a U.S. Army Special Forces soldier. He died on February 13, 2006, in Deh Rawod, Afghanistan, during Operation Enduring Freedom.
Their Story
Edwin Herbert Dazachacon was born in Belleville, Illinois, and served as an Active Duty soldier in the United States Army. He was assigned to the Headquarters and Support Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
On February 13, 2006, Dazachacon was killed by hostile action in the Deh Rawod district of Afghanistan's Uruzgan province. According to U.S. military reports, his unit was conducting combat operations in the region at the time of his death.
His death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001 following the September 11 attacks. The operation focused on dismantling al-Qaeda and removing the Taliban from power.
The Department of Defense announced his death the following day. He was posthumously promoted from Sergeant First Class to Staff Sergeant. His name is recorded on the Afghanistan War Memorial at the National Infantry Museum and in the Defense Casualty Analysis System.
