Billy Don Brixey Jr. was born and raised in Ferriday, Louisiana. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was assigned to Combat Service Support Group-3, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, based at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe Bay.
According to Marine Corps records, Brixey was wounded in hostile action in Afghanistan. He was subsequently evacuated to the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, where he died of his wounds on January 27, 2006.
