A Daren Aurena Book 1 Complete Hausa Novel English Translation
Her heart was breaking and beating with great force. She knelt in front of the young man and began shedding hot tears.
She said, “I do not know what wisdom Allah has hidden between us that made Him bring you into my life on my wedding night. This was the night I had been hoping and longing for over many years. The night I had made many promises to myself. The night I carried big dreams and expectations.”
She continued, “It was the night I hoped would be my last morning waking up in this village filled with different people and different traditions. On my wedding night, in the early morning, destiny brought me together with you. And now, the destiny of marriage will separate us forever.”
She wiped her tears and said, “From the moment I saw you, my plans scattered. The dreams I had built for a long time collapsed, including the dream of reaching what my heart desired. When I first saw you lying helplessly on the ground beside the farm road, that was the moment all my dreams fell apart.”
She added, “On my wedding night, I met you. And on my wedding night, I will leave you without even knowing your name. I will leave you in the hands of the city doctor, Abdul. I know he will take good care of you. I wish you goodness and recovery, handsome young man.”
She said softly, “My name is Zulaika. At school, they call me Zulai Mamman. At home, they call me Zulai. But Habu, my fiancé and tomorrow’s husband, calls me ‘Mai Lof.’ He says it sounds like a city name used for someone you love.”
She became silent and wiped the tears from her eyes. Then she stood up, intending to leave.
Suddenly, someone grabbed her hand. Out of fear, she moved backward as if she would fall, but she was pulled with such force that she landed against the young man.
At that same moment, Iya Abu and the other people who had entered the place stood still in shock, their eyes wide open.
Audu Gwangwan Accuses Zulai
Audu Gwangwan shouted, “La ilaha illallah! Today, I, Audu Gwangwan, have seen what is enough for my mother Salame. So the story that spread around town is true? They said you were moving around shamelessly on your wedding night. By Allah, today we will see who will defend you in this village.”
Before he could finish his insult, Zulai rose with all her strength. She shook her head, removed her scarf, and let her hair fall around her. Then she released a frightening scream and rushed toward Audu Gwangwan, who stood frozen when he saw her strange eyes.
Zulai jumped on him. Since Audu Gwangwan was a well-built man, she held on tightly and began striking the back of his head.
Audu Gwangwan struggled in fear, trying to get her off him, but he could not. The village head and the others trembled as they heard Zulai making a frightening sound.
She continued until Audu began crying in pain. Then she came down from him and moved toward the village head, who was standing there reciting prayers and seeking protection from the harm of jinn.
Before he realized what was happening, Zulai grabbed his beard and pulled it with all her strength.
The village head screamed in pain. He begged the people around him to help, but no one moved. Everyone was too afraid.
The village head began crying and pleading with Zulai, promising her many things.
Zulai acted as if she did not know what was happening. In truth, she had long been angry with the village head and his people because of the way they had been monitoring her.

Chapter 4
All because the man she was going to marry was the son of the village head, people had been watching her closely and following her movements. Zulai made sure the village head suffered enough until even he cried before she finally left him.
Then she turned toward the village head’s attendants, who were the only ones still standing there. Everyone else had run away to save themselves.
The attendants were also terrified because they had seen what happened to the village head. They could not run only because if they abandoned their duty and something happened, they would lose their positions.
After releasing the village head’s beard, Zulai moved backward until she leaned against the young stranger.
In her heart, she thought, “So this foreign-looking young man’s body is this soft? By Allah, I will enjoy this little reward after all the stress I went through to save his life today.”
Outwardly, however, she began acting weak. She let out a tired breath and became limp, as if she had returned to her normal senses.
As soon as the village head was freed, he gathered his large robe, removed his shoes, and ran with all his strength. When his attendants saw that their leader had escaped, they also followed him at great speed. Each of them wanted to outrun the other.
They did not stop until they reached the palace. There, everyone collapsed, trying to catch their breath.
Before they could finish breathing properly, they saw a group of people running toward them with dust rising behind them.
One man shouted loudly, “People, everyone should save himself! The town is not safe today. Women should enter their houses and lock the doors. Today, this town is not safe.”
When the village head and his people heard that, they quickly stood and joined the running crowd.
Within moments, every house was locked. Even the mosques were locked. The group continued running without stopping until they had left the village and entered the bush. Only then did they realize they were lost and sat down to catch their breath.
Zulai and the Stranger
On Zulai’s side, she remained leaning against the young stranger for almost ten minutes before finally opening her eyes. When she did, her eyes met his.
He had been staring at her with sharp, pale eyes.
Trying to pretend as if nothing had happened, he said calmly, “Get down from me.”
Zulai quickly moved away from him, while her heart beat fast as if it would tear open her chest. Yet she kept her face bold and began speaking.
“Malam, why are you like this? Do you know the risk I took just to help you? Just because I leaned on you a little, you opened your mouth to…”
She stopped suddenly when he pulled her back strongly.
In a low, echoing voice, he said, “If it is my body, then come and lie on it however you want. No one will stop you. I am a grateful man, and I will never forget your kindness to me. If you had not helped me, I would no longer be alive. You are special to me. I must give you whatever you want. But honestly, I am afraid of women with spirits, especially one like you who can attack men so fearlessly.”
Zulai quickly interrupted him.
“Who told you I have spirits? Malam, do not bring trouble to me. I am perfectly fine, by Allah. I only did what I did to deal with those troublesome people. You do not know their character. They could easily plot against me in this village and make life difficult for my parents and siblings.”
She added, “And honestly, I have been angry with the village head and Audu Gwangwan for a long time. That is why I taught them a lesson.”
Fadeel Makes an Offer
A thought came to the young man’s mind. He nodded slowly as if agreeing with the idea in his heart. Then he became calm and faced Zulai.
He said, “I have heard what you said, and I understand you very well. You impressed me because you stood up and took action for yourself. Because of that, I feel interested in bringing you into the life of my brother, who is facing complicated problems.”
He continued, “If you agree with me, I will employ you to work on his matter, and I will pay you millions. I promise to fulfill all your life dreams if you accept my request.”
He paused, then said, “My name is Fadeel. I live in Abuja. My brother’s name is Fahad.”
He began explaining everything to her, hoping she would agree because he felt he had found the solution to their problems in her.
As he spoke, tears covered his face. Zulai reacted with shock at different parts of the story. At some points, she jumped up in anger like a lioness. At other points, she bit her finger and nodded in deep thought.
Before he finished speaking, Zulai interrupted him.
“Enough, Fadeel. Stop there before my heart fails because of the sadness in your story. Listen, going to Abuja is now a must for me. I must enter your family and deal with the wicked people troubling you.”
She continued, “But do not rush. Today is my wedding night. I cannot ignore such an important day. And I also cannot allow you to leave me here now. So what should we do?”
The Village Head in the Bush
Meanwhile, the village head and his people were still sitting in the bush. Each person had his own worry. Thirst was disturbing them, and they could not find the way back home. Some of them had started crying because Maghrib was approaching.
The village head sat silently like a trapped animal.
After some time, Audu Gwangwan asked a question that made everyone look at one another.
“Please, people, what exactly were we running from?”
Everyone began thinking about what had happened.
Then the young man who had shouted earlier that everyone should save himself suddenly said, “By Allah, ask the village head. We saw him and his attendants running seriously, so we also followed them in order to save our lives.”
The village head became silent, sweat dripping from his body. If his thoughts were correct, then they had all been running because of Zulai’s fake spirit act.
Before he could say anything, he heard the barber’s voice saying, “By Allah, it was Zulai, daughter of Mamman. Her spirits rose and she…”
Audu Gwangwan quickly covered his mouth and shook his head, warning him not to say more.
The village head released a deep sigh.
