“Mami please let’s take him to the hospital. He’s coughing blood.”
The young lady speaking looked between twenty-two and twenty-four years old. Tears filled her eyes while fear covered her face completely.
The woman called Mami wiped her tears carefully with the wrapper tied around her body before speaking helplessly:
“Sameera, where do you expect me to get hospital money from? Your sister Laila already lost her job, and I just paid your school fees last week using the little profit from my food business.”
“If we go to the hospital now, they will ask for payment before treatment. Tell me honestly, what should I do?”
The Pain of Abnal
The woman looked older than her actual age because of suffering and poverty.
Suddenly, the young man lying weakly beside them coughed painfully.
Everyone immediately turned toward him.
With great difficulty, he began speaking slowly:
“Mami… Laila… Sameera… you all know how much I love you. But I don’t think I can survive this.”
“My chest hurts badly.”
Before he could continue, Laila quickly interrupted him emotionally:
“Abnal, are you trying to destroy yourself because of a woman?”
“If you don’t pity Sameera and me, at least pity Mami.”
“Rukayya is not the last woman on earth.”
“Nothing will happen to you by Allah’s permission.”
The Family’s Struggle
This was the family of the late Malam Muhammad and his wife Maryam, popularly called Mami.
They lived in a poor rural area inside Keffi, Nasarawa State.
Malam Muhammad died in a terrible road accident twenty-three years earlier while returning from work.
At the time of his death, Mami was heavily pregnant with Sameera.
He had worked as an Islamiyya school teacher and left behind almost nothing except faith and honesty.
After his death, relatives visited briefly for condolences before abandoning the family completely.
With the small gifts she received after childbirth, Mami started selling food outside their tiny house.
Laila sacrificed her own education to support the family while Abnal continued school.
The family suffered severe poverty for years.
The Beauty Nobody Could Ignore
Despite their terrible financial condition, one thing always shocked people.
The family possessed unbelievable beauty.
Especially Abnal.
Even though he was male, his beauty surpassed everyone around him.
Their fair glowing skin, soft hair, and striking blue eyes made many people believe they looked foreign rather than African.

Rukayya and the Broken Heart
Rukayya was the daughter of wealthy Hajia Saudat, one of the richest women in their neighborhood.
Rukayya met Abnal during university.
The first time she saw him, she immediately became attracted to him.
Despite her rich background, she fell deeply in love with Abnal.
Unfortunately, her mother and elder sister strongly opposed the relationship.
They constantly poisoned her mind against him.
Eventually, after meeting richer men introduced by her family, Rukayya slowly changed.
One painful day, she finally ended everything with Abnal.
That heartbreak completely destroyed him emotionally.
Since the breakup, his health continued worsening daily.
The Hospital Emergency
Eventually, Mami and Laila rushed him to the Federal Hospital in Keffi.
Luckily for them, Nurse Zainab recognized the family immediately because she regularly bought food from Mami.
Out of kindness, she quickly arranged emergency treatment for Abnal.
After listening carefully to their explanation, Nurse Zainab became worried immediately.
“There’s a cardiologist visiting from Abuja today,” she explained.
“He handles very critical cases.”
“Maybe Allah brought him here for your brother.”

Doctor Marwan Meets Laila
Together, Nurse Zainab and Laila walked toward the doctor’s office.
Inside sat Doctor Marwan working quietly on his laptop.
The moment Laila stepped forward to explain her brother’s condition, Doctor Marwan became completely speechless.
He had never seen such breathtaking beauty before.
Especially her rare blue eyes.
Without realizing it, he whispered softly:
“Tabarakallahu Ahsanul Khaliqin.”
Unfortunately, he became so distracted by her beauty that he barely heard anything she explained.
Only after Nurse Zainab called him again did he return to reality.
Smiling gently, he asked:
“What did you say, beautiful?”
Laila instantly understood the meaning behind his stare.
Normally she would never tolerate such behavior.
But because her brother’s life depended on him, she forced herself to remain calm and repeated the explanation again.
A Critical Decision
Doctor Marwan followed them back to the emergency ward and examined Abnal carefully.
After asking several questions, his expression became serious.
“From the look of things, his condition is critical.”
“Although proper tests haven’t been done yet, I can already tell he may need surgery immediately if you don’t want complications.”
Fear instantly filled Laila’s eyes.
She looked directly at the doctor before asking softly:
“So doctor… what do we do now?”
