Their Story
1LT White, Ashley Irene, 24 years old, grew up in ALLIANCE, OH and served as National Guard in the ARMY with COMPANY C, 230TH BRIGADE SUPPORT BATTALION, 30TH HEAVY BRIGADE COMBAT TEAM, GOLDSBORO, NC during Operation Enduring Freedom.
She did not survive OEF. The ARMY recorded her death on October 22, 2011 in ZHARI DISTRICT, AFGHANISTAN, from HOSTILE.
In the final years of OEF, a surge had been deployed and drawn down. The Taliban had outlasted every strategy. The Afghan army the US built would collapse six years after OEF ended.
The ARMY classified her death as "HOSTILE" ? a category that matters to the families who must make sense of it. Her name is documented in the Defense Casualty Analysis System at https://dcas.dmdc.osd.mil/dcas/app/conflictCasualties/oef.
