Michael Thomas Hiester was a 33-year-old Master Sergeant from Bluffton, Indiana. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), 76th Infantry Brigade, part of the 24th Infantry Division, based in Indianapolis.
On March 26, 2005, Hiester was killed in Kabul, Afghanistan. According to the U.S. Department of Defense, his death was the result of a hostile incident. Specific operational details of the event were not widely released in public reports at the time.
