Hasenauer, Jason Daniel
Private First Class Jason Daniel Hasenauer, 21, of Hilton, New York, was a U.S. Army infantryman. He was killed in action on December 28, 2005, in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Their Story
Jason Daniel Hasenauer was a 21-year-old from the village of Hilton, in Monroe County, New York. He served as an infantryman with Company D, 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 1st Brigade Combat Team (Task Force Devil) based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
On December 28, 2005, PFC Hasenauer was conducting a dismounted patrol near Kandahar, Afghanistan. According to the Department of Defense, his unit came under enemy small-arms fire during the patrol. Hasenauer was killed in the engagement.
His death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. In late 2005, operations in the Kandahar region focused on counter-insurgency and stabilization efforts against Taliban and other militant forces.
The Department of Defense announced his death on December 30, 2005. His body was returned to the United States, and he was buried in Parma Union Cemetery in Hilton, New York.
PFC Hasenauer was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart. In 2006, a memorial scholarship was established in his name at Hilton High School.
