Gumaro P?rez Aguilando

Gumaro Pérez Aguilando was a freelance journalist working in the state of Veracruz, Mexico. He covered general reporting topics in a region known for its high levels of violence and organized crime.

On December 19, 2015, Pérez Aguilando was shot by unidentified assailants in the municipality of Acayucan, Veracruz. He was reportedly traveling in a vehicle when he was attacked. He died from his wounds at the scene.

His death occurred during a period of intense violence against journalists in Mexico, particularly in Veracruz. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), at least 11 journalists were killed in direct relation to their work in Mexico between 2010 and 2015, with Veracruz being one of the most dangerous states for the press.
