Their Story
Edward Savy Grace was a 39-year-old sergeant serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 182nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade of the Massachusetts Army National Guard, based in Braintree. A resident of South Dartmouth, he had deployed to multiple locations during his service, including Afghanistan, the Philippines, and the Horn of Africa.
According to official casualty reports from the U.S. Department of Defense, Sgt. Grace died on October 23, 2011, in Silver Spring, Maryland. The official cause was listed as a non-combat incident. He was not in a combat zone at the time of his death, but was serving on active duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
