Their Story

Robert Marzan was a 54-year-old career US Army warrant officer from Sacramento, California. He was assigned to the 1st Theater Sustainment Command, a logistics headquarters based at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and was serving on a nine-month rotation in the Middle East at the time of his death.

The attack occurred during a period of open hostilities referred to as the US?Israel War on Iran, which escalated in early 2026. The conflict involved direct military engagements between the United States, its allies, and Iranian forces across the Middle East.

The US Department of Defense confirmed the casualties. Marzan was the oldest of the six service members killed in the attack, which was part of a larger Iranian operation known as Operation Epic Fury targeting US logistical infrastructure.

Marzan's death was noted due to his age and extensive career. His continued service past the typical retirement age for enlisted personnel and junior officers was reported as a reflection of his experience and dedication to his specialized role in Army logistics.
