Kenneth A. Corzine was a 23-year-old from Bethalto, Illinois, who enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was assigned as a rifleman to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, based at Camp Pendleton, California. His unit deployed to Afghanistan as part of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force Forward, operating in Helmand province.

According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports, Lance Cpl. Corzine was wounded in action while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was evacuated from the battlefield for medical treatment and subsequently transferred to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, where he died from his wounds on December 24, 2010.
