A Gidanta Na Girma Book 1 Complete Hausa Novel English Translation

“Oh Allah, our mother, you have gone and left us in a life of suffering. By Allah, I will follow you…”

Before she could finish speaking, she collapsed and stopped moving. Everyone in the house rushed toward her. They began pouring water on her, but she did not respond.

Her elder sister became confused and terrified. She ran out of the house screaming. The men standing outside quickly rushed toward her, asking what had happened, but she could not speak. She only kept pointing toward the inside of the house.

Without wasting time, they ran into the house.

They became deeply frightened when they saw what was happening. An elderly man, who from his appearance was clearly their father because of how much they resembled him, moved close to the little girl, who could not be more than nine years old.

He bent down and carried her. His eyes were filled with tears, but the tears refused to fall. He carried her toward the entrance of the house. Another man quickly took them in his car, along with her elder sister, and they headed straight to the hospital.

Husnah Is Taken to the Hospital

Emergency help was given to her immediately, while they stood outside, moving back and forth in worry.

A doctor came out and said, “Here is a prescription. Please get this medicine quickly.”

The man collected it and quickly returned with the medicine and water. The medicine was taken from him, and by Allah’s mercy, Husnah woke up crying.

The doctor gave her a sleeping injection, then came out and shook hands with the men.

He said, “She has woken up, but I gave her something to sleep. Insha Allah, when she wakes again, she will regain herself properly.”

Then the doctor asked, “Please, what frightened her this much? Her heart has started reacting badly, and she is close to developing a serious heart condition.”

The elderly man wiped his tears and said, “Husnah had every reason to be frightened to the point of almost losing herself. Losing a mother is a great loss, even when it comes after illness, not to mention a sudden death.”

The doctor became very worried. At once, his pity for the little girl increased. He prayed for them and offered his condolences.

They thanked him, and he left.

Zarah Stays With Husnah

After they sat for a while, the elderly man stood and went to his daughter.

He said, “Zarah, put patience and endurance in your heart. Stay with your sister and comfort her. Tell her that your mother needs prayers, not crying. I am going to receive people’s condolences.”

Zarah nodded while tears fell from her eyes.

The two men left, and she remained there until a nurse came and called her. Then she entered the room.

She saw the little girl lying on the hospital bed with a drip attached to her hand.

Zarah pulled a chair and sat beside her, staring at her. Pity for both of them filled her heart again.

She said, “Husnah, let us pray for our mother instead of crying. I know that even when Mama was alive, she could not stop people from hurting us. All the suffering we went through happened while she was still with us. But a mother is always a mother, especially a mother who taught us patience and endurance.”

She continued, “Have you forgotten that she always advised us to accept destiny, whether good or painful? Husnah, the doctor said you are close to having a heart problem. For Allah’s sake, have mercy on me. You know I am the only one who will suffer badly if anything happens to you.”

They both cried. There was no one to truly comfort them except the people around who felt pity for them. Even the nurses, despite how hardened they usually were, felt sorry for the girls.

Husnah’s Pain

With difficulty, Husnah said, “Aunty Zarah, so Mama has left us, right? I told her not to leave us, but she still left. And our father does not love us. He does not care about us.”

Zarah quickly covered her mouth and said, “Haba, Husnah, do not say that. Keep quiet. Our father loves us.”

Husnah replied quickly, “Is that why he brought us here and left us? And you still say he loves us? Did he leave you money to buy food for us? As for me, I want to follow our mother.”

Aunty Zarah began crying deeply. Seeing her cry made Husnah also cry again, but then she became quiet.

They had been in the hospital since ten in the morning until Asr time without receiving anything from home. When a woman sitting near them noticed their condition, she gave them food and water.

They thanked her. Zarah fed Husnah with her own hand until she was full. After that, Zarah also ate some of the jollof rice.

Night came, but their father did not return. There was no news from him, and no one came to check on them. People around them kept expressing shock at such behavior.

The people in the hospital continued giving them food and different snacks out of pity.

Leaving the Hospital

The next morning around 8:30, the doctor checked Husnah and said, “I will discharge her now. Please make sure you take care of her medication. She is close to developing a serious heart condition, but if her emotional stress and medicine are properly handled, insha Allah everything will become fine. I also noticed that she has ulcer symptoms, so please take care of her.”

Zarah nodded and said, “Thank you very much.”

They were discharged.

Husnah said, “Aunty Zarah, can we stay here, where no one troubles us and where we get plenty of food to eat?”

Zarah shook her head and said, “We have to go back home. We only need to be patient with our situation.”

She encouraged Husnah, and they left the hospital with some money that kind people had given them.

Husnah happily collected the money, thanking the people with joy. As soon as they stepped outside, Husnah loosened the wrapper around her waist, folded the money, and tied it inside the edge of the wrapper.

Zarah only watched her quietly.

They entered a vehicle and stopped in their neighborhood.

Returning Home

People began offering them condolences. At once, the death of their mother became fresh in their hearts again.

No one was at the front of their house. Everyone who had gathered earlier had already left.

They entered the house, even though they felt as if they should not go in.

With prayers on their lips, they entered and greeted, but they were ignored. People were sitting there like pieces of wood, yet no one answered their greeting.

Their father was sitting and eating tuwo. He looked at them once, then looked away.

Suddenly, one woman spoke angrily.

“Look at these shameless girls. Even the death of your mother did not make you behave. You went around wandering. I knew it. You left the hospital since yesterday, and now you are only just returning to this house?”

The sisters burst into tears as if their hearts would break.
