Yar Zaman Daki Book 1 Complete Hausa Novel
Khalid remained frozen, staring at Walida as she yawned repeatedly with her eyes half closed.
After she finished yawning, she lifted her head from where she had been resting and said:
“Uncle, I’m thirsty.”
Without even looking towards the place where he believed the water and yoghurt were kept, Khalid stretched out his hand while keeping his eyes fixed on Walida.
His hand touched one of the yoghurt containers, and he immediately noticed that it felt unusually light, as though everything inside it had already been consumed.
This time, his stomach tightened with uneasiness.
However, because he did not want Walida to notice that he was becoming frightened, he quickly tried to cover his fear with irritation.
He said:
“What exactly is going on here? We haven’t even gone anywhere yet and they have already finished everything. Even the yoghurt has been completely drunk. Wallahi, whoever is doing this to me, no matter who that person is, I am ready to deal with them.”
Zarah Waits for Khalid
Meanwhile, Amarya Zarah was sitting somewhere else, waiting for her groom, Khalid, to return.
The aroma of the chicken had completely filled her nose, and apart from repeatedly swallowing her saliva, there was almost nothing else she could do.
When Khalid remained away for too long and the silence continued, Zarah began to feel irritated.
Every time she remembered Walida, a deep feeling of annoyance spread through her heart.
Slowly, she stood up and walked towards the plastic bag containing the chicken.
She cautiously looked towards the entrance to make sure no one was coming.
When she heard nothing but silence, she stretched out her hand with the intention of opening the bag.
Suddenly, she heard something that sounded as though someone had said:
“Oh my! Bride of Chicken!”
Zarah Hears a Strange Voice
Zarah jumped slightly in shock and quickly stepped backwards.
She began looking around nervously because she had heard the voice of the chicken so clearly in her ears, as though it had actually spoken.
Without wasting any time, she hurried towards the section of the house where she had seen Khalid go.
When she arrived, she found Khalid squatting in front of Walida and saying:
“Walida, please go to sleep. You can see that your Aunty is over there waiting for me.”
Walida pouted and replied:
“No, I want you to sleep here.”
The sight of Khalid gently pleading with Walida immediately provoked Zarah’s anger.
From the doorway, she suddenly burst into an angry outburst and said:
“Khalid, what are you doing like this? Am I the bride here or is it this girl? Ever since you entered this house, you came straight to this girl while I have been sitting over there waiting for you. Wallahi, if I had known that this was the humiliation I would face…”
Zarah Confronts Walida
Before Zarah could finish speaking, Walida sat upright and said:
“Please forgive me, Aunty.”
Zarah immediately cut her off angrily:
“Shut your mouth, you little hypocrite! All you know is pretending to be clever and innocent.”
Khalid stood up slowly, looking uncomfortable and embarrassed.
He said:
“Please, Zarah, calm down. It is not as though something else kept me here. Just look at this bag.”
As he spoke, Khalid lifted the plastic bag containing the chicken for Zarah to see.
The Chicken Has Mysteriously Been Eaten
The moment Zarah saw the chewed bones inside the bag, her anger increased even more.
She said:
“Of course! Since the two of you have already eaten everything, all that is left for you to show me are bones. But honestly, Khalid, you have really disappointed me. If I had known this was how you were going to treat me…”
Khalid interrupted Zarah and carefully explained everything that had happened.
At first, she wanted to accuse him of lying.
But when she remembered the strange voice she had heard earlier, fear suddenly returned to her heart.
While the two of them were still standing there, Walida raised her head and said:
“Uncle, you two should go. I’m sleepy now.”
