Zuriarmu Book 1 Complete Hausa Novel English Translation

Doc Rid and Haidar were welcomed in the large parlor of Elh Fayçal’s house.

After greetings, Elh Fayçal informed his grandsons, Rid and Haidar, that he had built a clinic for them right there in their neighborhood.

They became very happy and thanked him sincerely. After prayers were offered, the gathering ended, and everyone returned to his own house with his children.

Since all their houses were inside the same neighborhood and close to one another, they walked home on foot.

Daddy and Mommy took their son Haidar and entered their house. Dad and Mom also entered their own house. Adam also went into his house. Then Umma and Abba took Ridwane and entered their own home.

Ridwane Returns Home

After they entered, Umma told Rid to go and bathe, then come out and eat. He answered, “Alright.”

About thirty minutes later, he came out and went straight to the dining table. He sat down, waiting for food to be served.

Abba and Umma were in the parlor watching TV.

Then Manane and Yesmine came downstairs. They greeted Abba and Umma before going to the dining area to welcome their elder brother properly.

From a distance, Rid kept looking at them until they came closer and greeted him.

Manane began serving him food while he continued looking at them. He answered their greetings with, “Thank you.”

Then he asked, “What kind of dressing is this?”

Yesmine looked at herself. She and Manane were both wearing English-style tops and trousers.

Rid turned toward the parlor and said, “Umma, is this how these girls dress now, and you people allow them?”

Umma replied, “Hmm, as for me, I am already tired of scolding them. I tried and tried, but they refused to stop. It is your Mom who gives them money for shopping. Whenever I complain, she says her children will stop when they grow older.”

Rid said nothing. He began eating.

Manane and Yesmine disturbed him, asking for the gifts he brought for them.

He said, “Wait until tomorrow. When I open my things, I will give you.”

He stood and left them at the dining table because they had already spoiled his mood.

The next day, not only Manane but even the house workers received gifts. Manane, Yesmine, and Muhsana each received two suitcases: one from Doc Rid and one from Haidar.

Haidar Visits Umma Salma

Three days after their return, Haidar pressured Rid to accompany him to Umma Salma’s house.

With difficulty, he finally convinced Rid, but Rid’s face remained serious.

When they arrived, Haidar called Umma Salma and told her that they were in their compound.

She came out happily. She was a beautiful girl who looked not more than twenty years old. She was fair, lovely, and slightly tall.

She greeted them respectfully and invited them inside.

Haidar followed her, but the king of silence and pride, Rid, returned to the car and sat down.

After about one hour, Rid began calling Haidar’s phone, but Haidar refused to answer.

Then Rid sent him a message saying that if he did not come out within twenty minutes, he would leave.

After the twenty minutes passed, Rid came out and met them.

As soon as he arrived, he said, “Salma, I think we have to leave because it is getting late.”

Haidar turned and gave him a sharp look.

Umma Salma said, “Okay. So when will you come again?”

Haidar said, “Ask the doctor. He is the one who escorted me here.”

He said that because he wanted Rid to know that if he later asked him to accompany him again, he should not complain.

Rid said, “Well, look at our coming in one month. That is enough.”

Haidar quickly interrupted him and said, “Haba, Doctor. What is wrong with saying tomorrow?”

Rid laughed, said goodbye to Salma, and returned to the car.

Haidar also said goodbye to her and told her they would speak on the phone. He also said he would inform Daddy and the others about the marriage matter.

When Haidar joined Rid in the car, Rid kept hissing. Haidar said nothing because he already knew his cousin’s character.

They drove away.

After a while, Doc Haidar said, “Brother, I want you to tell Daddy and the others about my marriage.”

Rid only nodded and said nothing.

When they arrived, Rid dropped Haidar at the front of his house. Haidar then entered their home because all the houses were in a row.

The New Clinic

Within those days, the clinic their grandfather built for them was officially opened.

Truly, a lot of money had been spent. The clinic was fully equipped with modern medical tools, skilled nurses, and doctors from different specialties.

Zuriarmu, meaning Our Family, was written by Aicha and Fasma.

Two Weeks After Starting Work

Two weeks after they started working at the clinic, Doc Rid spoke to Daddy about going to ask for Umma Salma’s hand in marriage for his cousin Haidar.

Umma Salma was Safara’s younger sister. Safara was Ya Adam’s wife. Their parents were Mallam Inoussa and Mariama. They were not extremely rich, but they had a comfortable level of wealth.

It was the tradition of Elh Fayçal’s family that every night, they gathered in his house for dinner.

After they finished eating one evening and sat chatting, Daddy brought up the issue of seeking marriage for Haidar.

Elh Fayçal laughed in his mature way and asked, “Whose daughter is she?”

Daddy replied, “She is Mallam Inoussa’s daughter.”

Elh Fayçal said, “Ah, so it is a family matter. Alhamdulillah. Then we are going back to yesterday’s house. May Allah place goodness in it.”

They all answered, “Ameen.”

They agreed that within that same week, preparations should be made to go and ask for her hand.

Ya Adam cleared his throat and turned to Ridwane teasingly.

He asked, “And you, Ridwane, when are we going to ask for your own wife?”

Rid said nothing. He only laughed and lowered his head.

The gathering ended with prayers, and everyone returned to their house.

Rid Disciplines Manane and Yesmine

The next morning, Haidar came to pick Rid up, even though their clinic was still inside the same neighborhood. They still preferred going together by car.

When Haidar entered the parlor, everyone was at the dining table eating breakfast.

Manane was angry because she had been forced to sit and eat proper breakfast. Rid had stopped her from taking chocolate and ice cream, insisting that she must eat a complete breakfast.

Haidar came closer and greeted Umma and the others.

When he sat down, Yesmine and Manane greeted him.

Abba said, “I am leaving now because I have a case at the tribunal.”

He stood and left, while they prayed for his success.

Umma also followed him out.

Haidar looked at Rid and said, “Soon, maybe after some months, my own breakfast will also be arranged for me like this.”

Rid hissed and said, “Wait until you get married before you start showing off to people.”

Manane and Yesmine clapped and said, “This game is interesting. Please continue.”

Rid turned and glared at them.

He said, “Stand up and leave, or do you want to be late?”

They stood up, pouting as they were about to leave.

Suddenly, Rid shouted, “Come back. Is this your uniform? Is this how you want to go out?”

Manane, whose mouth was never silent, said, “Ya Rid, it is the uniform.”

He replied, “Yes, I know it is the uniform. But the sewing is not proper.”

Manane looked at herself. She had sewn her uniform as a top and trousers, while Yesmine’s was a three-quarter skirt.

Rid shouted again and ordered them to go and change.

Manane almost cried as they went upstairs to change.

When they came out, he sent them back again to bring their hijabs.

When they finally came out, they did not even look at him before leaving.

Rid only shook his head, went to his room, picked up his work bag, and left with Haidar.

On the way, he said to Haidar, “By Allah, these girls have changed a lot. Imagine Manane dressing in a top and trousers. Or wearing English-style clothes.”

Haidar said, “How old are they anyway? Leave them. They will stop when they grow older. Everything has its time.”

Haidar’s Marriage Proposal

That Friday, after Jumu’ah prayer, the elders of Elh Fayçal’s family—Dad, Abba, and Daddy—went to Mallam Inoussa’s house to ask for his daughter Umma Salma’s hand in marriage for Haidar.

Since it was a family matter, the dowry was given immediately, and the wedding date was fixed for one month later.

Abba even said he would take responsibility for the bride’s furniture and room setup.

Mallam Inoussa thanked him sincerely. They chatted for a while before saying goodbye and returning home happily.

Truly, this family had generosity. Abba had done well by taking that responsibility, even though it was not because Mallam Inoussa could not afford it.

Haidar’s Happiness

Haidar was extremely happy. His mouth could not stop smiling, like a field of cotton.

When he met Doc Rid in his office, he entered dancing slightly, with his smile refusing to disappear.

Rid raised his head and looked at him with amusement.

He asked, “What is all this happiness about?”

Haidar replied, “Haba, brother. Salma just told me that Abba and the others went to ask for her hand, and a date has already been fixed for one month from now.”

Rid smiled and said, “I congratulate you, brother. May Allah place goodness in it.”

Haidar said, “But honestly, I wish we were becoming grooms together.”

Rid replied, “As you know, marriage is not part of my plan now. Maybe later. Besides, I have not yet seen the woman who suits me.”

Haidar said, “That is up to you. Stay there while I start gathering babies.”

Rid laughed and said, “The wedding has not even happened yet, and you are already talking about babies? May Allah guide you. You have become completely confused just because they fixed your wedding date. I wonder what you will do on the wedding day.”

Haidar said, “You do not understand. Let us leave that topic. When you finish, let us go home. Or will you take me to Salma’s house now?”

Rid said, “Haba, brother. Look, Maghrib is almost here. Wait until after Isha.”

Haidar replied, “Okay. May Allah keep us alive. Now stand up so we can go home before Maghrib catches us here.”
