Wasser, Christopher Brandon
Lance Corporal Christopher Brandon Wasser, 21, of Ottawa, Kansas, was a U.S. Marine with 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines. He was killed in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, on April 8, 2004.
Their Story
Christopher Brandon Wasser was a 21-year-old from Ottawa, Kansas. He served as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps, assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, based at Twentynine Palms, California.
On April 8, 2004, Wasser was killed by hostile action in Iraq's Al Anbar Province. According to contemporaneous casualty reports, his death occurred during a period of intense fighting in the region, which included the First Battle of Fallujah that began days later.
Operation Iraqi Freedom, the U.S.-led invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq, began in March 2003. By early 2004, a widespread insurgency had emerged, with Al Anbar Province becoming a focal point of resistance and heavy combat against coalition forces.
Wasser's death was reported by the Department of Defense and noted in local Kansas media. He was one of at least 135 U.S. service members killed in Iraq during the month of April 2004, one of the deadliest periods of the war to that date.
Lance Corporal Wasser is memorialized on the Iraq War Memorial at the University of Kansas and on the Global War on Terrorism memorial at Fort Riley. His name is listed on the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America's casualty roster.
