Rowan Dale Walter was a 25-year-old from Winnetka, California. He served as a Specialist in the U.S. Army, assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, based at Fort Carson, Colorado.
On February 23, 2007, Walter was killed by hostile fire in Ramadi, the capital of Iraq's volatile Anbar province. The city was a focal point of insurgent activity and intense urban combat during the war.
