Their Story
Sgt. 1st Class Elliott Jerome Robbins was a Special Forces medical sergeant assigned to Company D, 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), based at Fort Carson, Colorado. He was from Ogden, Utah, and was 31 years old at the time of his death.
According to U.S. Department of Defense statements, Robbins died from a non-combat related injury on June 30, 2019, at Camp Antonik in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. The incident was under investigation, and officials stated the circumstances did not involve enemy action.
Robbins was deployed in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel, the U.S. mission that succeeded Operation Enduring Freedom in 2015. The operation focused on counterterrorism and advising Afghan security forces as part of the broader, decades-long war in Afghanistan.
Following his death, Robbins was posthumously promoted from staff sergeant to sergeant first class. The 10th Special Forces Group memorialized him, noting his service as a Green Beret medical sergeant. His awards included the Army Commendation Medal and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal.
