Alex Joseph Ram, a 20-year-old U.S. Army Specialist from Rancho Cucamonga, California, was killed in action in Tell Beydar, Syria, on February 1, 2022.

Their Story

Alex Joseph Ram was a Specialist in the U.S. Army, assigned to Troop B, 2nd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Carson, Colorado. He was from Rancho Cucamonga, California, and was 20 years old when he deployed to the Middle East.

On February 1, 2022, Ram died in Tell Beydar, Syria. The U.S. Department of Defense stated he was killed while conducting operations in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. No further details about the specific incident were publicly released by the military.

Ram's death occurred during Operation Inherent Resolve, the U.S.-led coalition mission against the Islamic State group. Following the territorial defeat of the group's so-called caliphate in 2019, the mission's primary focus shifted to an advise-and-assist role for local partner forces and targeted counterterrorism operations.

Ram's death was reported by several major news outlets, including the Associated Press. The Army posthumously awarded him the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart. He was survived by his parents and siblings.

He was interred at Riverside National Cemetery in California. His name is recorded on the Defense Casualty Analysis System and on memorials honoring service members killed in the conflict against the Islamic State.
