Kenneth Blaine May Jr. was a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 7, part of the I Marine Expeditionary Force Forward based at Camp Pendleton, California. The battalion deployed to Afghanistan in early 2010.
On May 11, 2010, Sgt. May was killed in Helmand province, a volatile region in southern Afghanistan. The Department of Defense listed his death as resulting from hostile action. He was 26 years old.
May died during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. In 2010, the conflict was marked by a major troop surge, with intense counterinsurgency operations focused on Taliban strongholds in provinces like Helmand.
