Lundy, Brian Keith Jr

Brian Keith Lundy Jr. was a 25-year-old Petty Officer Second Class (PO2) from Austin, Texas. He was a member of the U.S. Navy but was serving with the 2nd Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force, based out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, at the time of his deployment to Afghanistan.

On September 9, 2011, Lundy was killed during a hostile event in the Marjah district of Afghanistan's Helmand province. According to the Department of Defense, he died of wounds sustained from an enemy improvised explosive device (IED) while conducting combat operations.

Lundy's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. By late 2011, the conflict was in its tenth year, with a significant U.S. troop surge having recently been deployed and then beginning a drawdown. Intense fighting continued in Taliban strongholds like Helmand province.

The Department of Defense officially announced Lundy's death on September 12, 2011. He was survived by his family in Texas. His body was returned to the United States, and he was buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Petty Officer Second Class Lundy is memorialized on the Afghanistan War Memorial at the Museum of the Forgotten Warriors in California and on online veterans' memorials. His name is inscribed on Panel 2W, Line 127 of the Texas Capitol's Afghanistan and Iraq Veterans Memorial.
