Martin Anthony Lugo was a 24-year-old sergeant from Tucson, Arizona, serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, based at Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia. The 75th Ranger Regiment is a specialized light infantry unit.
On August 19, 2010, Lugo was killed during a combat operation in the Puli Alam district of Afghanistan's Logar province. According to the U.S. Department of Defense, his death resulted from a hostile incident. Specific details of the engagement were not publicly released by the military.
