Staff Sergeant Edwardo Loredo was a soldier assigned to Company C, 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. A native of Houston, Texas, the 34-year-old had previously deployed to the Philippines and the Horn of Africa during his military service.

On June 24, 2010, Loredo was killed in Kandahar province, southern Afghanistan. According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports, his death resulted from hostile action. Specific details of the incident were not publicly released by the military.

Loredo's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. In late 2009, a significant troop surge was ordered, with forces concentrated in southern provinces like Kandahar to counter a resilient insurgency.
