Logan, Joseph Daniel
Joseph Daniel Logan, a 22-year-old U.S. Marine Corporal from Willis, Texas, was killed in action in Helmand province, Afghanistan, on January 19, 2012.
Their Story
Corporal Joseph Daniel Logan was a Marine assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 363 (HMH-363), Marine Aircraft Group 24, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. His unit was based at Marine Corps Base Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. Before deploying to Afghanistan, his service reportedly included operations in the Philippines and the Horn of Africa.
On January 19, 2012, Corporal Logan died in Helmand province, a volatile region in southern Afghanistan. The U.S. Department of Defense announced he was killed while conducting combat operations. No further specifics regarding the incident were released in initial reports.
Logan's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. By early 2012, the conflict was in its eleventh year, with a significant concentration of U.S. and allied forces engaged in counterinsurgency efforts in Helmand and neighboring Kandahar province.
