Lipari, Kevin Ernest

Sergeant First Class Kevin Ernest Lipari was a 39-year-old soldier from Baldwin, New York. He served with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, based in Bamberg, Germany. The brigade is a rapid-deployment unit with a history of operations in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Lipari died on December 14, 2012, in Pul-e Alam, the capital of Afghanistan's Logar province. According to the U.S. Department of Defense, he was killed by small arms fire while on patrol. He was one of two U.S. soldiers killed in the province that day.

His death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. The operation's primary objectives, as defined by the U.S. government, were to dismantle al-Qaeda and remove the Taliban regime from power. By late 2012, the conflict had entered a phase focused on transitioning security responsibilities to Afghan forces.

Lipari's death was reported by several U.S. news outlets, including the New York Daily News, which noted his Long Island roots. He was survived by his wife and children. The 173rd Airborne Brigade honored him in a memorial ceremony at its forward operating base in Afghanistan.

Lipari is listed on the Afghanistan War casualty rolls maintained by the U.S. Department of Defense and independent archives. His name appears on memorials dedicated to service members from New York who were killed in the post-9/11 wars.
