George Veranus Libby was a 23-year-old soldier from Aberdeen, North Carolina. He served as a Specialist with Company C, 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, based at Fort Lewis, Washington. His unit was part of the U.S. Army's special operations forces.
According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports, Specialist Libby died on August 20, 2007, in Khowst province, Afghanistan. The official release stated he was killed by enemy small-arms fire during combat operations.
