Darrell Cornelius Lewis was a 31-year-old captain in the United States Army, originally from Washington, D.C. He was assigned to the 1st Infantry Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, based at Fort Riley, Kansas, and was deployed to Afghanistan as part of a military transition team.
On June 23, 2007, Captain Lewis was killed in Vashir, a district in Afghanistan's Helmand province. According to the Department of Defense, his death resulted from hostile action.
