Jinsu Lee was a 34-year-old American soldier from Chatsworth, California. He served as a Specialist in the U.S. Army, assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, based out of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. His unit was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, Specialist Lee died on August 5, 2011, at Forward Operating Base Bostick in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. The official casualty report listed his death as resulting from wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire.

Lee's death occurred during the final years of Operation Enduring Freedom, a conflict that began in October 2001. By 2011, the U.S. had completed a troop surge and was beginning a phased drawdown, transferring security responsibilities to Afghan National Security Forces. The war was characterized by persistent insurgent activity in eastern provinces like Kunar.

Lee's death was announced by the Department of Defense. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and other service medals. His name is inscribed on the Afghanistan War Memorial at Schofield Barracks.
