Senior Master Sergeant James Bertrand Lackey was a 45-year-old Air Force special operations airman from Green Cove Springs, Florida. He served with the 8th Special Operations Squadron, based at Hurlburt Field, Florida, a unit specializing in unconventional warfare and personnel recovery.

Lackey died on April 9, 2010, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan. According to the U.S. Department of Defense, he was killed while supporting combat operations. He was reportedly part of a special operations team conducting a mission in the volatile region.
