Their Story
Patrick Francis Kutschbach was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army, assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group, based in Boeblingen, Germany. The 25-year-old soldier was from McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania. His unit, part of the U.S. Special Operations Command, conducted missions in multiple theaters, including Afghanistan, the Philippines, and the Horn of Africa.
On November 10, 2007, Kutschbach was killed in Bagram, Afghanistan. The Department of Defense listed the cause as hostile action. According to contemporaneous reporting, his death occurred during an attack on a U.S. military convoy near the Bagram Airfield base.
Kutschbach's death came during a period of escalating violence in the Afghanistan War, known to the U.S. as Operation Enduring Freedom.
