Adam Michael Kuligowski was a 21-year-old soldier from Arlington, Virginia. He served as a Specialist with Company B, 101st Division Special Troops Battalion, 101st Airborne Division, based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports, Specialist Kuligowski died on April 6, 2009, in Bagram, Afghanistan, from wounds sustained during a combat operation. The official release stated he died of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked by enemy small arms fire.

Operation Enduring Freedom was the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001 following the September 11 attacks.
