Corporal Jason Anthony Karella, 20, of Anchorage, Alaska, was a U.S. Marine killed in action on October 9, 2008, in Delaram, Afghanistan.

Jason Anthony Karella was a 20-year-old from Anchorage, Alaska, who enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served as a Corporal with Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, based out of Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California.
On October 9, 2008, Corporal Karella was killed during combat operations in Delaram, located in Afghanistan's Farah Province. According to official Department of Defense casualty announcements, he died from wounds sustained in a hostile incident.
Karella's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan. By 2008, the conflict had entered a period of intensified fighting, particularly in southern and western provinces like Farah. Insurgent tactics, including improvised explosive devices and ambushes, were responsible for a significant number of coalition casualties.
His death was reported by the Department of Defense and noted in press releases and local Alaskan media. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart medal.
