According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports, Sergeant Jones died on June 21, 2009, in Bagram, Afghanistan. The official cause was listed as hostile fire. Media reports from the time indicate his death occurred during a rocket attack on Bagram Airfield, a major coalition base north of Kabul.
