Captain Jason Benjamin Jones, 29, of Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania, was a U.S. Army Special Forces officer. He was killed on June 2, 2014, at Jalalabad Airfield, Afghanistan.
Their Story
Jason Benjamin Jones grew up in Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army, assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports, Captain Jones died on June 2, 2014, from wounds sustained during a hostile incident at Jalalabad Airfield in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan. The specific details of the engagement were not publicly released by the military.
His death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. By 2014, the mission had largely shifted to training Afghan forces and conducting counterterrorism operations, though combat continued in several regions.
