Lance Corporal Larry Michael Johnson was a 19-year-old from Scranton, Pennsylvania. He served as an active-duty Marine with the 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was deployed to Afghanistan as part of the Marine Expeditionary Brigade-Afghanistan Forward.
According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports, Johnson died on February 18, 2010, in Helmand province. The official cause was listed as hostile action. No further specific details regarding the incident were publicly released in initial announcements.
