Justin Rasard Johnson Sr. was a 25-year-old Staff Sergeant from Hobe Sound, Florida. He served with the 359th Inland Cargo Transfer Company, 10th Transportation Battalion, 7th Sustainment Brigade, based at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. His unit specialized in logistics and cargo movement, supporting operations in Afghanistan, the Philippines, and the Horn of Africa.

According to U.S. Department of Defense records, Johnson died on June 18, 2013, at Bagram Airfield in Parwan Province, Afghanistan. The official casualty report listed the cause as hostile fire. No further specifics regarding the incident were publicly detailed in initial releases.

Johnson's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. By 2013, the conflict was in a phase focused on training Afghan forces and conducting counterinsurgency operations, with Bagram serving as a major coalition hub.
