Their Story

Jamie Darrell Jarboe was a 27-year-old Staff Sergeant from Frankfort, Indiana. He served with Troop A, 4th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Riley, Kansas. According to the Defense Casualty Analysis System, he was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

On March 21, 2012, Jarboe died at a hospital in Topeka, Kansas. The Department of Defense stated his death was the result of wounds suffered from enemy small arms fire in Zharay district, Kandahar province, Afghanistan, on March 16, 2012. He was medically evacuated to the United States for treatment.

His death occurred during the final years of Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan. The conflict saw intense combat in Kandahar province, a Taliban stronghold, during this period. The 4th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment was part of the 1st Infantry Division's deployment to the region.

Jarboe's body was returned to Indiana. He was buried with military honors in Bunnell Cemetery in Frankfort. The Indiana Patriot Guard Riders reportedly attended his funeral services.

Staff Sergeant Jarboe was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart. He is memorialized on the Indiana Fallen Heroes website and at Fort Riley. His name is inscribed on the Frankfort Veterans Memorial.
