First Lieutenant Sean Robert Jacobs was a 23-year-old officer from Redding, California, serving with Battery A, 2nd Battalion, 17th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, based out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. He was deployed to Afghanistan as part of the U.S. military's Operation Enduring Freedom.
On July 26, 2012, Jacobs was killed by enemy small-arms fire in Tsagay province, located in Afghanistan's Zabul province. The incident occurred during a dismounted patrol, according to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports.
